Bulletproof
I am a sucker for sample sales. My inbox gets flooded this time of year with a slew of invites from designer showrooms and I have to edit which ones will make the cut. For me and countless others, the designer sample sale is a time to snag the trend you might have missed out on, and get that special piece. At retail, faced with high price tags, I have the urge to buy everything, but I hold back that urge, and just window shop. The fine act of leaving the store to think about what I want, allows me more time, which inevitably allows the contents of my bank account to enter my mind. A total buzz-kill. But one of my favorite habits is to walk into a store, check out what is still floating on the racks, and then snag it at a fraction of the cost. Coined fiscal responsibility, a game I haven’t quite mastered, it is slowly creeping into my vocabulary.
On the hunt for the latest, newest, coolest, least unknown labels out there, I find myself with a case of fashion fatigue. I don’t want what I saw in the stores in August, but I want to add a punch to my wardrobe. I achieve this by gravitating towards basics with a twist–a new shiny metallic blazer, rather than basic black. A lurex sheath that will go over a denim shirt just posted yesterday on Instagram, and create a wow outfit. A pair of black booties that translate well with cropped jeans, a skirt, or a dress. A patent leather clutch with red lips. You see where I’m heading? Add a punch of Parisian cool into your everyday style. The basics that look good on me and probably most of you–will always find a reason to be in my closet, and now is the perfect time to invest in those pieces.
