Honestly, one of the scariest things I have ever done was to go on the Kindga Ka roller coaster at Great Adventure, an all-steel whip fast ride that nearly gave me a panic attack, dubbed the world’s tallest roller coaster and the second fastest in the world. Next to that, as an adventure seeking warrior, always on the hunt for the next best thing, my checklist is quite long including surfing 6 foot waves, and hiking Kathmandu. But I digress. This renegade belief filters into my everyday lifestyle as I believe in the power of guts and glory and revel in the power that fashion can bring.
Today on the Fashion Hunter, to put a close to Five Foot Fridays, in the final of the five part series, I bring you the midi skirt. In my previous life, I would’ve never touched the weird-length skirt. It’s not sexy-above the knee-come hither material nor does it fall low enough to be a free-flowing maxi-dress. But what it does do is show a little leg, adding the dimensions of flair and a whole lot of fashion power.

While were on the subject of scary, mixing prints, season, and designers is also a scary attempt, but once you get a handle on it, it’s life changing. I was asked the question what is my fashion mantra, and my answer is simply as follows, “If getting dressed takes longer than 15 minutes, it’s too much effort.” Personal expression is an essential part of what drives fashion today. Think about it — when you can start creating combos that you’ve never tried before, your potential wardrobe combinations and permutations increase exponentially, you can get dressed faster, and you’ll impress your fashion friends (seemingly) effortlessly.

In today’s day and age you don’t need a trust fund to support your love and access of fashion clothes–especially in the age of The Outnet, and Yoox. I adore Zara and other retailers for its fast disposable fashion – I can buy something without remorse even when I know it is a one season wonder.

Before I go off the grid for a week, as I am taking a well-needed vacation away from my computer to enjoy the last weeks of summer. I wanted to end this post with a quote from Simon Doonan’s new book “The Asylum: A Collage of Couture Reminiscences…and Hysteria. He says, “today, everything exists concurrently, which makes this a fantastic time for fashion because everything is about self-expression. The ownership shifts to the consumer. It’s about having your own look, crafting your own creative identity.”
I am on board with this belief as I continue to write about fashion style clients I am constantly learning what looks good on me and thereofore am able to share that information with all of you.
