Vintage Finds
At the end of June, I try to break out my fabulous vintage finds — my treasure chest of lacy dresses, peter pan collars, double-breasted jackets with exposed zips, and denim cut-offs like these from Asos, and live life a little more simply. What I love about summer is you can go bohemian and look like you just hit the jackpot. Truth be told, the women in the 60s and 70s seemed to know how to do summer dressing best. Take a look at Jane Birkin. No really, she knew how to rock that frilly embroidered granny lace to a tee (he he).

If you have been following my blog, I really enjoy manipulating old things and making them current. Slicing denim shorts, hemming my dresses, buying vintage tees, and repurposing old things to give them a second chance. And when I shop vintage I tend to look for the following construction clues as signs of quality: boned bodices, hand sewing, flat lining, bound buttonholes, handset zippers, covered buttons, piped seams, bias-bound edges, bound seam allowances, and silk linings—these are all telltale signs of quality construction in any era. Good news for the slackers out there who want to create the illusion that they just walked down memory lane, a slew of new websites have popped up that provide an opportunity for fashion lovers to buy and sell high-end fashion from their favorite designers at obtainable prices. HelloLaMode, Copious, and Poshmark are a few of the sites that come to mind. I recently attended an event for HelloLaMode where you create a profile and hunt the best gently used clothing and accessories the internet has to offer. For the hoarders that need to shed, you can sell your unwanted unloved threads from your own closet. Here is a sample of a dress that is going to be for sale on HelloLaMode very soon. I pulled out my old Alexander Wang dress to celebrate this event and paired it with vintagy-looking booties. Love. Buy. Sell. Repeat.

Here is a little inspo for your weekend perusal should you want to purchase anything.
So in an ode to summer days, Levi’s cut-offs, and floral prints, keep it simple. Check out Nasty Gal for cool vintage stuff. Keep in chic.
