Big Collars Are Micro-Trending for Spring 2020
What will the 2020s bring us? At the start of a new decade, the world is unsure. In fact, people are freaked out. There’s the impending doom of climate change, political upheaval in the U.S. and abroad, and a new and extremely scary virus spreading across the world, just to start. But I am looking on the bright side. Besides the negativity streaming across my instagram feed, there is another trend that although seems small, is anything but. Everywhere I turn, larger-than-life oversize collars are stealing the limelight. And my heart. Big collars are micro-trending for Spring 2020.

Together with large sharply pointed ’70s disco collars on the runways over blazers, there was the frill. Today, I am focusing on the frilly or lace-trimmed vintage-inspired collars exuding a Victorian vibe that fashion girls can’t seem to get enough of. The trend has been propelled mostly thanks to the Copenhagen brand Ganni, whose crisp, wide and frilly collared shirts have been spotted on some of the biggest fashion influencers. The brand’s recent F/W 20 runway show even further solidified that the romantic detail is here to stay. The trend was also spotted in abundance at Chanel’s Haute Couture S/S 20 show. And whenever Chanel makes a major fashion statement, we listen!
So how are you going to welcome big collar energy into our wardrobes this season? Try a frilly wide-collar shirt over a crew-neck sweater, cardigan, or blazer for a fashion girl–approved look that will keep you warm through this transitional season. Balance the statement top with a pair of simple jeans on the bottom for an of-the-moment look. I wore just that yesterday and will recreate this look all spring and summer long.
