Don’t Skirt the Issue
I’ve always loved the figure-flattering shape of the fit-and-flare skirt. In the past few seasons, I have living in denim rags of all kinds, skinnies, and a melange of bottoms that don’t include a skirt. Thankfully, it’s been experiencing a fashion renaissance the past few seasons, and my wardrobe is ready for a change. We can thank Stella McCartney for starting the trend back in fall 2012. She showed body-hugging dresses and skirts with a flare at the hem of her miniskirts, and the style has caught on fire. Rebecca Minkoff showed the look for resort 2014 and I kind of like it.
After a recent browse into my favorite shops, I couldn’t find anything that I like, but good things seem to come to those who wait. Leave it to Zara to come up with a great iteration of sorts, of a basic black, not too flippy version that I could get my hands on without spending a ton of money. (For the record, it clocked in at paltry $39.00). Now I can’t turn my head without spotting a version of this skirt and have added a few options to the color wheel.
Now I may not be the stunning model seen above, but I tried my hand at it, proving the point that you don’t have to be in your 20’s to wear a skirt. I paired it with a white linen lace top, a statement necklace, a pop of color in the bag and shoe department, and voila!
band of outsiders lace top, get a similar one at free people // zara skirt get a similar one at parker// dannijo vala necklace // stella mccartney bag get a similar one here // pierre hardy shoes // iro jacket
They’re easy to wear right now in early fall with a cute top and sandals, and as the temperature drops, they’re perfect paired with tights and a sweater.
This was taken during spring/ summer fashion week last month and all I can say is, “dude, where’s your lipstick?”
