Fall Trends

As the long beachy days slowly wane,  I am wistful that summer is just about over. Yet at the same time, I am excited about the new prospects that fall always brings.  For all of you fashionettes, there is no season that offers more reasons to get out of bed in the morning and get dressed than fall.  Those amazing python sky high boots I started craving last February to the velvets, tweeds, capes, cords, denim and new shapes that are all there for the taking.

It starts with the 500+ page fashion magazines that come to my door in late August, the crisp weather, my birthday (Virgos rule!), inevitable fall shopping,  Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, and my personal favorite, Fashion Night’s Out. (More about that in my upcoming blog!)

Looking forward to seeing what the designers have in store for Spring 2012, I am stricken with the “what to wear now” disease as I want to look au courant for the upcoming shows.
What will all the stylists and editors be flaunting come next week at Lincoln Center?
What are the ‘must have” looks?
Most importantly, what will I be wearing in the next few months?

Dressing up for the autumn season has never been so inspiring.
There are many trends this season to choose from. Animal prints, lace and leather, statement collars and neckwear, ladylike dressing, knee-high boots, tribal looks from the 70’s, and long sweeping capes.

My favs? Here’s whats on my radar:

1. Graphic Mondrian Prints
Futuristic prints is one of fall’s biggest trends and definitely makes a statement.

2. Simply Dots.
Dots have solidified their position as the pattern ruler of the fashion world this season. Polkadots are literally popping up everywhere from apparel to accessories. Channel your modern secretary vibe with a polka-dot blouse or dress.  Our grandmothers knew a thing or two about looking chic for work. Keep from looking too spotty by pairing them with jeans.  On the fall runways, Marc Jacobs, Stella McCartney, and Diane Von Furstenbergwere seeing spots.

3. Wacky Fur: Is this fur real or faux?
It would seem that animal pelt prices have gone down because fur was everywhere this season. No longer relegated to coats, fur was shown on heads, on shoes, on headbands, on keyfobs, handbags, feet, and other strange places. Speaking of luxe, I personally am loving the wild and crazy colors that make the new and bold fur pieces something to shout about.

4. Shine On.
Whether it be metallic pants, patent skirts, or a paillette top, its all shining and shimmering this fall.

5. The Small Statement clutch
The dainty evening bag is back again, and in a big way. Think of it as an accessory with utility, and choose one with a great pattern or skin that is anything but “safe.”
