Blog

Forty eight hours of art, parties, fashion, and fun.

As a fashion blogger, I spend many hours squirreled away on my laptop writing and editing, and sometimes being a hermit is just no fun. Most of the time, I just want to crawl out of my writing hole and  and actually witnesss the incredible clothing, inspiring art, and the creative people behind that I blog about, and experience a little joie de vivre. Well folks, Art Basel is the just the ticket. What’s the trick? When in Miami, do as they do. Baselers gallery hop, party bop, and take advantage of all the city has to offer. My goal was to soak up the experience and attend arty fashion parties or fashionable art parties. I visited rooftops, hotel lobbies, pools, restaurants, convention centers, outdoor... Read More

Art Basel: Where art and fashion collide.

For 10 years now, the art world has descended upon Miami Beach, like a bird zeroing in on its prey, for a whirlwind of art, showings, and day-to-night indulgence. As a former Art History student who dove right in to my first career at NYs auction houses and who still loves art, artists and the glamorous world of the art player, I’ve made this my new mandatory stop. Last December, my first Basel experience, I really tried to take it all in and not be so sidetracked by the social scene. Fashion party girl? Yup. Granted, I enjoy all the unbridled hobnobbing with the cognoscenti, the artists, and the party crashers alike, but for me, dancing with the art itself puts me in a visual coma. It is well known that... Read More

Runway to Reality

I call this the score of the century, my red and blue playful plaid jacket from Thakoon. The big hair? I tried new curling tools, but the jury is out on that one. Don’t want to be channeling the Farrah thing. Was going more for the groovy chick look. The jacket is from the current Fall 2011 season resurrected from the the lonely racks of hanging threads looking for a home. These are pieces that may or may not land on somebody’s body. Of course, one person’s trash is another person’s treasure – a.k.a. – I’m a very lucky girl with a very good eye to snag this stunner. There’s a reason I’m known as The Fashion Hunter. As you may or may not know, designers... Read More

Statement Necklaces

Is your neckline getting the attention it deserves? With warrior-inspired  jewelry catapulting down the Fall runways (The Hunter in me likes), vintage chokers making an elegant comeback and minimalist graphic neck bands turning heads everywhere, neckware is the schizz right now. From oversized collars at Elie Saab and Michael Kors to crystal embellished silver chains at YSL, its whats above the neckline that matters.  Jason Wu, Celine and Dior all showed them at their Spring 2012 shows. As the eye tends to travel north from the collarbone it makes sense that neckpieces, all the rage in the 1990’s, are storming back onto the fashion scene. Designers from around the globe are ingeniously transforming these adornments for the twenty first century. These are not your standard velvet chokers from seasons past adorned with cameos or charms. People, these are tough-looking, more graphic.... Read More

My Week as Marilyn

My love affair with Marilyn Monroe runs pretty deep. It has been 45 years since the death of actress, singer, showgirl, and goddess and even though I have never met her, I will always admire the screen siren. Why am I captivated by the blonde icon?  For one she is the BOMB. She is the world’s most famous sex symbol ever. You agree, no? I love her joie de vivre, her confidence, and her ability to attract. As a fashion blogger and stylist, I’m either posing for the camera or staging and shooting others and have developed a lifelong crush on the camera lens and its extraordinary powers. I understand the deep rooted desire to channel the Marilyn within. Her fashion style was spot-on, unadorned, and classically chic. Is she a... Read More

Sweaters to shrug off the chill

November is “fair warning” season. A premonition of winter, soon to blow flakes at our doorstep. It is the changing of the leaves that is the tip off with darkness creeping in at 4pm and the plummeting temperatures that is the harsh reality here. We all lived through it before, so just embrace it– and while you’re at it, why not dress the part?  You might need tights. Here’s the fashion drill. November 2011 =  many samples sales (run fast), Resort wear is in-store now, and December starts previews for Fall 2012. I consider walking around NYC on a blustery windy day almost as bad as ice-fishing in Alaska, but without the thrill. Outdoor winter activities, including walking to work, aren’t fun if you are cold. You... Read More

Catch the fall fashion train before it’s gone

It’s about time I put up this video about Fall trends. Better NOW than never. Even though it’s mid-November (as I write this here in NY, it’s nearing 60 degrees), we only have 40 days till Hanukah begins and 45 days till Christmas. Wow, that is really soon. Although this is not a sartorial conquest, it is my interview with Angela Guitard of Angela’s sharing the carefully edited collections of fabulousness that is her new famed boutique.  The takeaway here is this: Rolando Santana feather boleros, Glamourpuss fuscia oversized fur collars, hoods and capes. Great helpful staff. Grab it while it’s hot. Before you know it, Resort will be rolling in on those racks. Happy Shopping!   You can find the items in-store right here:... Read More

Versace for H&M. Be Bold.

Christy Turlington. Photograph by Irving Penn, VOGUE, 1990. Last night Versace launched their collection for H&M. Another collaboration between mega fashion house and mass market retailer. A bad-ass rock-n-roll collection. And it is on its way to stores, November 19th. I think the whole collaboration between high fashion x mass market =  a deserving separate blog post on its own – but I am going to start here.
