Winter Grey

W-w-winter is in full swing. And whether you’re buried under piles of snow (sorry, DC and NYC) or blown away by epic winds (ahem, Chicago), there’s never been a better time to focus on yourself i.e.: your health, your home, and your wardrobe. We stand here at the aftermath of the storm and the city is sloppy, gritty, and grey. If you are still digging out of Winter storm Jonas, take note. It is January. It’s not everyday that you can snowboard in New York City. If this storm told you nothing else, now is the time to update your closet and buy your ski gear. Be prepared. Just last week, I did prepare you to get your snow gear before the storm. Hopefully you did follow... Read More

For The Slopes, A Checklist

I am getting excited about my winter holiday out west. Skiing is one of the best perks of winter, of course including taking mid-mountain hot chocolate breaks, sitting by the fire, and soaking in the hot tub after a long day on the slopes. You see what I really enjoy. The rewards. This winter’s ski and snowboard gear and apparel are laden with innovative features from adjustable inflatable jackets to skiis that basically ski for you. Even if snow sports aren’t your thing, who can honestly say they don’t like jacuzzis, mountain villages and the prospect of a ‘vin chaud’ at après ski? And all this can be done in style. Whether you want statement block colour separates or chic neutral pieces, there’s something for every taste... Read More

What To Keep What to Toss What to Add

I have been on a cleaning rampage of late. For a starting point, I can wear a week’s worth of outfits, starting with a simple white shirt and simply adding from there. I have paired it with jeans, leather pants, a skirt. The reason this works is because it’s never about simply copy and pasting the same look over and over, right. It’s a game of take, toss and add, my friends. Don’t have any white shirts? Get em while they’re hot. You can and should use your own closet as the department store + stylist that I am sure it endeavors to be, and then make like a super star, kneeling down on one knee, arms in the air and body odor in check and start cleaning house. I... Read More

Winter Coats

Thanks to the generous gift of 60 degree plus temps over the past month, all the coats you put off buying because the weather was so dark warm are on sale now. The good news is, there was no need need to spend upwards of $2,000 on a coat, when all you wore was a T-shirt, a vest, and a pair of jeans. Winter coats were far from your mind. But, in a rather cruel conjunction, that brief window of premature spring is over and it’s cold as balls in New York City right now. I don’t want to try to make sense of El Nino and its fluctuating crazy habits of late, but when life throws you unpredictability, you had better be prepared. Yes, it... Read More

Winter Skin Routine

It is always this time of year where I think I am never going to have fun again. My to-do list is made, resolutions so far in check, but my skin is peeling, my December flat abs are no longer, and it’s freezing cold outside. In the effort of trying not to rely on the purchasing power of the internet, which usually gives me a temporary high, I am not spending money on clothing for the month of January. Would rather book a trip to be frank. I am using the power of the positive and getting dressed just because I can. Just because I have to nowhere to go, doesn’t mean I can’t wear this feather top to the supermarket. It’s all about the... Read More

Cozy and Warm

With winter comes steamy mugs of hot chocolate, snowflake piled window sills, cherry red decorations and the smell of fresh balsam burning in the fireplace. Those are the positive traits. Refocusing on the positive is one of my resolutions. Old man winter does come with some negative behaviors. Namely, dry peeling skin, limited sunlight, therefore not enough Vitamin D, and lack of energy to do almost anything not to venture out in to the arctic blasts. But let’s pretend that winter is your favorite holiday. I am pulling out my softest sweaters, tallest boots and coziest scarves and suggest you do the same. Winter will be here awhile. One of my favorite things about winter? Comfort. Save all your tight tees and short skirts for summer.... Read More

How to Recharge and Be Happy in the New Year

I love beginnings. They inspire me to start over, refresh, and press the pause button. Like to start of a new job, a new friendship, a new year are a time to reflect on the good and the bad that has happened and try to reinvent the wheel. I think about what worked, what didn’t, and try to build from there. I don’t like resolutions because, they never work. I used to make long lists of #goals that I wanted to achieve, get to the gym every day, land a dream career, but never completed them because they are always too lofty. So I have narrowed down my list to what I really can accomplish by taking baby steps. Last year, I was determined to... Read More

What to Pack for A Beach Getaway

The Winter Solstice is about to arrive in the Northern Hemisphere and just in time, I am headed out of town for a quick beach vacation to Mexico. I have never been, but the weather report says it will be in the 90’s so that means I can pack extremely light with sandals, bathing suits, and sunscreen, to be front and center in my suitcase. And of course, don’t forget a wide-brimmed hat for sun protection. I have made too many mistakes over the years of packing too much and I hate myself for it. So here it is. What to pack for a beach getaway. For the record, I threw in a few rompers just to add some spice to the mix and my suitcase still... Read More
