White Hot

It’s sale time, Christmas in mid-July in the retail and fashion world, with smoking hot deals at Target July 25 and 26th, but I am still enjoying my icy cold brew and wearing all white. This past winter’s Polar Vortex put me in such a funk that I am enjoying every minute of outdoor life, including its partner in crime, frizz and humidity, that I can stand. Last winter, I threatened mother nature by resolving to leave New York only to realize that longterm, I’d only be hurting myself. New York, I love you and hate you, but I’m here for the long haul. As far as my wardrobe is concerned, it’s always at the tail end  of July that my pure closet feels so blah, that by... Read More

First Look At Nordstrom’s Fall Lineup

There is a theory that says when considering sales it’s not about how much money you spend, it’s about how much you save. It really depends on cost per wear, and how much said time costs each time you put it on your body. But, now that the days are longer and the endless summer seem like it will never end, I am getting sick of wearing the same white tops, shorts, and slip dresses over and over. But I still wear them as I am compelled to make the best use of the money that was well spent. On this beautiful Friday, I want you to think about cozy sweaters and boots, capes, blazers, and snow. WHAT? Forget I said that. I would like to introduce, drumroll... Read More

Unplugged

For the first time in a very long time, I feel naked. Nakedness buys you the feeling of freedom. Without all the materials that cloak our bodies, we are left with our own thoughts, feelings, desires and needs stripped down to the bare minimum. Clearly, it is not because I have nothing to wear. It is not because my entire closet was donated to Goodwill behind my back. It is not because I impulsively decided to move to Colorado and live in a tent. No, for 24 hours, I am without a phone. It is my digital security blanket and I feel lost without it. I am therefore forced to live without my third appendage, something I have not lived without EVER. After the initial... Read More

Come And Get It While It’s Hot

Happy Monday! Now that the World Cup is over, what is driving you out of bed today? It is July 14th, just about the middle of the month, are you taking advantage of your long summer weekends? I know I am. Today on the Fashion Hunter, let’s chat about motivation. What gets you out of bed in the morning? When it’s a hot and sunny summer day, your choices of what to eat (insert ice cream, cupcakes no more), what Shakespeare concert to see, what rooftop to attend, and which open-air festival you will appear at are endless. How about when its hot and muggy and you don’t want to do the above activities? Grab a book. I’m reading Amy Sohn’s sharp new novel, The Actress. ... Read More

On Cupcakes and Couture

When I heard the news that the Crumbs cupcake shops were closing its doors, I was wistful for the beginning of the cupcake mania when a sugar loaded, buttery-sweet, frosted, candy-colored confection was the ultimate divulgence. It’s hard to pinpoint the exact moment that cupcake mania erupted, maybe it was when Carrie Bradshaw sat outside Magnolia bakery devouring a cupcake and declaring her crush on Aidan circa 2000. Or, maybe not. Photo: Forbes Whenever it began, America exploded into a cupcake frenzy. Then as all trends do, the rainbow-colored cakes morphed into tiny cupcakes a la Baked By Melissa, gluten-free options, and food bloggers dived right in, creating prize-winning instagram pics worthy of a treat. We were a nation obsessed, and I won’t miss them. This week, that... Read More

Slip It On

Hellooo Tuesday heat wave! Let’s talk about it. Where shorts fail, scrunchies never do, and where hair scrunchies claim their stake in the bathroom and fail to impress outside the confines of your personal space, slip dresses, lightweight, breathable, and downright the perfect summer uniform for these sweltering 90-degree dog days of summer are the only thing to wear. And when ’90s-inspired trends made waves on spring runways, it was the humble slip dress that was the most ubiquitous. Easy to wear, in lieu of going commando, slip dresses are fashion’s easy answer to NOT sticking to the back seat of the city taxi. In shorts. You know what I’m talking about? Yeah, I thought so. Wearing: Won Hundred dress// Rachel Comey seamless slip underneath, get a... Read More
