Stuck On A Uniform

Shopping is a highly addicting habit that will temporarily medicate situations, but the guilt will, in a surreal sense, haunt you forever. I don’t mean that the Sacai Luck faux leather mini skirt that I purchased for myself for my birthday last month wasn’t well-deserved. I can think about whether I need it over and over in my head, until it’s in fact, gone, and then I ultimately get that fear of missing out, the FOMO disease. Especially in the highly competitive, fleeting field of fast fashion, where one day its hot, and the next it’s not, I’m doomed. There should be a drug for this problem to combat this addiction. As self-proclaimed fashionistas, we like to display our skillful abilities to put together outfits. I’m... Read More

Fall Essentials

Just because fall is here doesn’t mean you have to get all blah with your clothing. Au contraire! Thanks to the unexpected hues on this season’s runways—like pale pink from 3.1 Phillip Lim—these colorful Prada totes out now, its time to break all those old dumb rules like about not wearing white after Labor Day. The transition to fall/winter clothing isn’t easy to digest. Because you know right in front of us is a season of pale skin, frigid temps, and the non-ability to recognize anybody outside of their respective hat and scarves. Until Google Glass comes out, that is. There is always marrying the coat, with the sweater, with the bag, with the hat that makes is so challenging. You can stay opt to stay in your... Read More

The Backpack is Back

It’s Saturday afternoon and what a better way to spend it than sitting back and relaxing with a bloody mary in hand, laptops open, and embarking on this beautiful fall day. And why not go hands-free…with a backpack!? Our lives are so mobile, life is just easier commuting hands-free. The effortless of the sack makes it so successful. It’s time to step outside of the literal fashion curriculum and strap one of these on. The best news I’ve heard all season? Sure, why not. School is for kids, but especially on a weekend day, you can feel comfort and ease, even if you’re not heading to fashion school. At first I thought this ’90′s fashion revival was just a passing fashion mood, but it seems to have caught up and... Read More

Jean Paul Gaultier’s Brooklyn Heights

One of the most avant-guard designers around today, Jean Paul Gaultier, the groundbreaking French couturier, will be exhibiting around 140 pieces of art at the Brooklyn Museum. This multimedia exhibition which kicks off today, is organized around seven themes tracing the influences on Gaultier’s development, from the streets of Paris to the cinema, since he emerged as a designer in the 1970s to the present. I am getting sneak peek tomorrow night at the collection, which is displayed on custom mannequins with interactive faces created by high-definition audiovisual projections. What? Judging by all the buzz surrounding this, his persona, and the capital F fashion, it should be somewhat of a spectacle. Now the bigger question is, what am I going to wear to such a high-profile event? Maybe... Read More

Cozy Up

I consider myself  lucky to live in a city that has four seasons, not four-button suits. For us style mongers, they are so passé. Frankly, I started really appreciating the fact that you don’t have to sacrifice comfort for the sake of expressing uncalculated style. Here’s Susie Bubble who is a pro at mastering this chic-to-the-next-level-cozy mix in bubble gum pink. Fuzzy bags, duh. From the streets of Paris. photos: Tommy Ton. The Sartorialist Now that I whipped out my boots, jeans, and a beanie this morning, fall has officially arrived. Yeah! My wardrobe is filled to the brim with fuzzy sweaters and nubby knits, but those closet doors are just a bit more cramped. Boo! Ready for layering or wearing alone, these six things below are brightly... Read More

Flipping Out

October is one of my all-time favorite months. The weather has been so delightful, sunny and in the high 60’s during the day, and crisp and cool and night, the perfect layering weather. I love watching the leaves change, picking ripe apples, and an early sunset. Just kidding about the early sunset, but when my wardrobe shifts to comfy sweaters, skirts, and boots, my mind and body is ready to take on the fall months. This month will also bring us Halloween, pumpkins, creepy crawly things, and all things built around the consumption of candy. Candy equals rotting our collective teeth and gums, and for me, an additional layer of skin that doesn’t belong there. There’s no give for my longing to wear the crop top.  In... Read More

Kate Moss

Kate Moss is back with a vengeance, and is one of my all-time favorite models and style icons. From her trademark furs to cut-off shorts and knee-high wellies, Kate Moss has been a sartorial vanguard since she first stepped into the spotlight. Best said: anything she wears turns to gold. Am I right?  When Kate’s first Topshop collaboration came out in London in 2007, I was one of the thousands of people queuing outside of the building, desperate to grab any faux-fur gilet or vintage flapper dress within reach. I grabbed a black glittery tank top with a tie at the neck which I still wear, and am still coveting most of that collection that got away out in minutes Three and a half years later, she is designing...
