Wardrobe Wednesday: A Navy Sheath

acne studios dress // topshop chunky sweater // oscar de la renta dakota booties // maje clutch, get a similar one from bcbg or vanessa bruno I love the way a chic navy dress has such a pulled together simple look yet can be the perfect complement to the rest of your daily wardrobe. I especially love ACNE’s take on the clean understated look, especially when their clothes fit me like a glove. This dress has a slim-cut, a round tight neck, cap sleeves and figure-hugging darts on shoulders and breast. There is even a continuous two-way-zipper which is hidden from view, on the back which lends a sporty vibe. I can see wearing this laid-back with sneakers or sexy with single-sole pumps. A convertible navy dress is... Read More

My Shopping Cart

There is nothing better than Columbus Day, (yeah a day off!) than to have to chance to clean out my closet and do a mini-shop before fall sets in. I take a survey of what’s missing in my wardrobe, or what needs to be freshened up and hunt for the sales. For those of you wanting to venture out, I know Woodbury Commons, and Century 21 would be great options to hit the sales, but I have a feeling you’ll be spending your day either in traffic or online. So why not hit the world-wide web and shop from your laptop? That is where you’ll find me. Everything below is on sale or just under $100! Tibi oversized Quilted Bomber now at $385.00 ZARA pony... Trench Dressing

With the looming threat of rain constantly over our shoulders, (wasn’t it supposed to rain this week?), I am always confounded as to how to dress appropriately, albeit chic, under the angst-filled umbrella. Inclement weather really isn’t a particularly easy feat to tackle–humidity bastardizes our hair, our bodies and clothing own that dewy sensation that harbors this terrible sense of, get me in a plane to California where the sun is shining, and umbrella etiquette just doesn’t exist on the streets of New York. Nor anywhere. It just sucks. So how about that throwing on that familiar trench coat? It’s a classic no-brainer. It will cover up what may be wet, miserable clothes and nobody will know except you. When I started this post, I searched for... Read More

Bootie Time

This the time of year where you may be hunting for the “perfect fall boot.” Mid-October signifies changing weather, colorful leaves, and a race for a seat in the local coffee shop for warmth. Don’t put away those Birkenstocks just yet, (unless of course they are furry!) as we may encounter one more Indian summer. Nonetheless we still need to prepare our accoutrements for the months ahead. And buying boots is an easy way to distract ourselves from just that. Down below I have culled a sampling of  high-heeled booties that run the gamut from lace-ups to zippers, but I have to say these boots are fierce to prepare you for the upcoming weekend ahead. Here are my favorites. Image by Carina Gupta Left to... Read More

On Norma

I had the pleasure of visiting Norma Kamali’s showroom on a busy 56th Street last week on a beautiful afternoon. What struck me right away was the amount of influence and power that Norma holds today as a fashion icon. She literally invented the sweatshirt, the most comfortable garment on earth that is a cult-favorite post-1980 Flashdance, she now has a Wellness café, she is an extremely successful retailer, and continues to invent styles that women L-O-V-E. I recalled from my past the sleeping bag coat, the high-heeled sneaker, clothing made from parachutes, and being solely responsible to taking that sweatshirt to the streets. Just kidding about that, but I literally had many of these. For those of you old enough to remember, here are... Read More

proenza schouler chain leather wallet One of my favorite bags of all time, the PS11 classic shoulder bag, came into this iteration this past season with chained hardware and it is mine. After stalking it over and over again in the past few weeks, I caved for the wallet version instead of the classic bag. Of course, I saved up for this particular baby, but I am not pimping this bag for nothings sake. I really am enjoying the following attributes of the product itself. 1. The long chain. It has ability to swing it back and forth like no other. And its detachable so it can be just a wallet for a night out. 2. Its sexy. Just plain sexy. Even laying there on a... Read More

Don’t Skirt the Issue

I’ve always loved the figure-flattering shape of the fit-and-flare skirt. In the past few seasons, I have living in denim rags of all kinds, skinnies, and a melange of bottoms that don’t include a skirt. Thankfully, it’s been experiencing a fashion renaissance the past few seasons, and my wardrobe is ready for a change. We can thank Stella McCartney for starting the trend back in fall 2012. She showed body-hugging dresses and skirts with a flare at the hem of her miniskirts, and the style has caught on fire. Rebecca Minkoff showed the look for resort 2014 and I kind of like it. After a recent browse into my favorite shops, I couldn’t find anything that I like, but good things seem to come to those who... Read More

Weekend Wears

I love to make lists. By checking off various tasks on my to-do lists, by end of day, I feel a sense of accomplishment. And if don’t cross it off, the task moves to the following day till it’s completed. It’s a trick I learned in college and stayed with me throughout my working years. Same goes when I am preparing for a trip. I make a checklist, mark down what I want to put in my a carry-on, and then hunt for said items in my closet. Packing for a four-day trip looking ambitiously cool for all of those days? It might seem like a tall order but frankly, without scribbling down what I need to pack: that red lipstick, the eye mask, and the ubiquitous sweatshirt, my packing situation would be abominable. And I will... Read More
