Top Trends for Spring 2014

New York Fashion Week has come and gone, fall has yet begun, and yet I already know what I am planning to wear next spring. Although you might want to call this fashion magic, natch! it’s hand-picking from the front lines, the fringe benefits of studying up and doing my homework. While there are some trends that can be challenging, who wears crop-tops besides 20 year olds?, New York will lay down the groundwork for what’s to come down the pipes from London, now Milan, and Paris. Of note in my book are low-slung Bermuda shorts, sheer paneling, flats (hurrah!), basket weaving, florals, red and yellow and lavender, and deep V-necks. Yes, there were plenty of recycled trends and undernourished ideas from seasons past, (can we... Read More

Off-Duty Dressing X A Monday Giveaway

Happy Monday! Mondays are a drag that’s why I am giving you a chance to turn the frown upside down and win a cozy cashmere sweater from the fancies at Christopher Fischer. I don’t know about you, but if you’re in the fashion business or are just so into it, you’ve been hiding under a proverbial rock of the warmer months of spring and summer. Whites, fringe and florals have been hitting the NYC runways hard, and have now moved onto London. But Fall is the here and now and whether you live in a big city or a small town, back to school and the concept of shopping for Fall clothes is stressful. There’s more than ever to choose from, and before you can say,... Read More

Fashion Week Report Card

The best way I can describe fashion week to anybody who has never experience the event is that it is like an outrageous Broadway show, the most fabulous party on earth equipped with velvet ropes and a VIP guest list. Actually, besides the VIP guest list, this is clearly untrue. Fashion shows are the way that designers show off their creations they have been slaving over for the past 8 months. I don’t blame them for putting on a show. But the reality? It is more like pledging a sorority in that you are constantly being judged by the way you look. Will you get snapped by street style photographers? And more importantly, is what you’re wearing even relevant?  Oh yeah, yellow is Hot again. stella... Read More

Cropping Up

The Spring runways have spoken, and what a surprise! Like it or not, the 90’s are back in a big way. Grab your sweaters, florals, and flannels this fall as evident at Saint Laurent and don’t stop. Moving forward to Spring, fringe is big, and florals have sprouted, but revealing your midriff is a key theme cropping up at lightening speed. No, we’re not pushing aside this 90’s trend too quickly. Whether peek-a-boo looks or baring it all for the sake of flesh, the exposed midriff is here to stay. The Spring collections found everyone from the  to showing suggestive slices of toned (but of course) midriffs. While lingerie-inspired looks have abounded the past several seasons, this time around, designers were careful to expose just the right proportion... Read More

The Song of New York Fashion Week

There are always a few stand-out songs from the runways during Fashion Week. So far this cover version of Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky,” by Daughter has been heard several times in many itinerations. I really love this version. First runway to play it? BCBG. Pop in your ear buds and tune in. Watch the BCBG show live and the video just below.

Weekend Update NYFW

I am always amazed how many shows exist on the calendar during Fashion Week and how anybody manages to get to all of them. Everybody complains that the week is too jam-packed with events, but everybody shows up everywhere. If i were a bird, I could get to West 22nd Street and the West Side Highway back to Lincoln Center in a jiffy but we all know nobody flies. On Saturday of this fashion weekend I tried out the Citibike to realize that although it is a great mode of transportation for the city, my legs aren’t fast like the Road Runner and there were plenty of shows that I just missed because of poor timing. That being said, fashion doesn’t stop, the curtains go... Read More

Sleepless Saturday

Guys, it’s happening. New York Fashion Week has begun with a bang. Here’s the thing. I’m so excited about what is coming down the pipes for spring. A sea of black  at Sally LaPointe, deep V necks at Rag & Bone, and sleep just is NOT an option. Yesterday I hit several shows and today promises plenty of new trends. I’m not planning my outfits like I planned, just running with it. I liken my thoughts to my show notes on vibes and vines, etc. What’s my vibe? “Oh this printed top? I just threw it on.” Which leads me to the point: my goal is to be as effortless as possible. My days are long, my feet will be tired, and all I want to wear is... Read More

It’s Time!

Fashion Week started yesterday!! @^&%$#!!!! As I’m sifting through email and party Evites come rolling in, absolutely the last thing I want to fret about is what to wear. Labor Day has come and gone and although I have a sense of nostalgia and will continue to wear white pants, (there are still 20 days left of summer), I am looking forward to fall and what the new season has to bring. My “OMG I have nothing to wear!” stress started to loom a few days ago when I realized there was a strong possibility that I was not going to look the way I should, and everybody else was doing it right. In pre-planning all my outfits, I can’t be sure what I am wearing... Read More
