Something Navy

Black and white comprise the backbones of my wardrobe. I started collecting black clothes when I moved to New York many years ago, and white has most recently been a refreshing non-color choice for me all summer long. Although ubiquitous color choices for fall, a woman cannot live on black and white alone. Enter the softer palette of navy. Recent collections by Lanvin and Chloé showed navy in brand new combinations look so fresh for Fall. Specifically, for the girl who emerges from uniform dressing, there’s the Chloé woman, in a boy meets girl hauteur French way. These days navy is looking seriously chic. Take a look. I would start the navy trend with a coat, and one that will last all season and beyond. A perfect... Read More

Bag Envy

As a break from the weekly Five Foot Summer Series on the Fashion Hunter, my eyes have been going towards the new “It” bags that have been gracing fashion magazines and appeared back in the spring. They suddenly feel so fresh. I am currently taking notes on the graceful beautifully-crafted creation that is the “Le Dix” handbag, and other small handheld bags. Currently obsessed with the new modern lines from Alexander Wang’s new collection for Balenciaga, the bags have the structure and the statement, without plastering its name all over its front cover. I’m all about discretion these days. I get it, I really do. Photo: Harper’s Bazaar As soon as Wang was declared for Balenciaga, fashion pundits predicted the end of the studs and zips and actually, that... Read More

Shake It Up

It’s humid outside. It’s the beginning of August. And whether or not you are vacation-bound, your wardrobe choices may or may not be limited, but your sick of wearing the same uniform of all white and black. If this is the case, and you’re feeling a bit of the fashion blahs, I’m right there with you. Realizing though that denim is the ultimate blah-proof garment, jeans just aren’t always appropriate for work. So what’s a girl to do? Don’t worry, The Fashion Hunter has you covered for just that moment, when fall fashion is just around the corner, but you’re just not quite ready to take the plunge. It’s just in this spirit that I add some well-needed color to my wardrobe with nautical stripes, paired with a... Read More

Beyonce

Kicking off this Monday on a high note as tonight I am going to see Queen Bey perform tonight at Barclays Center. Based on hearsay and tweets from last night, Beyoncé’s vocals on the The Mrs. Carter Show World Tour are so pristine live, she could sing while standing still for two hours and get standing ovations. But Bey isn’t just the Voice; she’s also the Body, the Hair Flip, the Don’t-F*ck-With-Me Snarl. But you already know that. To celebrate the imminent concert, I put my brain on high drive to imagine the outfit that I don’t own, but wish I did. Taking that thought a bit further, what does one wear to a Beyoncé concert? Bad-ass bodysuit? Check. Smokin’ shoes? Check. Lot’s o’ fake lashes? Got... Read More

Wearing Summer

With the golden hour at its peak, my new Melissa Odebash maxi dress has taken center stage accompanied by a rattan clutch and a worn-out panama hat. Captured on my summer trip to St. Barths, there was no phone service for days, successfully relinquishing my desire to upload and connect to the world. The beach-to-bar cover-ups and a few bathing knickknacks, including sunscreen, are essentially all anybody wears in that oh-so-chic beach community. Avoir un grand weekend! melissa odebash maxi dress/ j crew panama hat/ lulu guinness clutch The maxi dress cover-up does maximize the style quotient eliminating any needs for accessories except for the St. Barth pearl on a rope. It also ties in perfectly with my themed Five Foot Fridays. Today in Part 3 of the... Read More

White Dress

Last weekend at a roundtable over lunch, five smart, single, powerful, working women were discussing the truisms of style, or lack thereof, women, and corporate culture in the workplace. One fact that still remains, some women just don’t have a clue on what to wear. Seeking help, finding television, they touted the show “What Not to Wear” featuring Stacy London and Clinton Kelly ambushing unsuspecting “fashion victims” nominated by friends and family as a start. But according to these women, the outfits were deemed inappropriate and as department heads, they had to be the one to do the calling out, subjecting the victims to the nearest Zara for a shopping spree. They uniformly wished an alarm would sound off the minute said victim entered the premises... Read More

Slip-Ons

Remember when the wedge sneaker reigned supreme? I sure do, that was only 6 months ago. It-girls world-wide wore the Isabel Marant sneakers and they became the latest ‘thing’? Those clunky, space-age lace-ups truly snowballed a revolution, pushing all others sneakers to the bottom of the pond. And then as soon as you can say I’ll take those in every color, they became ubiquitous, and every retailer under the sun quickly create their own version at every price point imaginable. This in turn prompted the trend to travel a familiar trajectory, going from top editors, to street style stars, to fashion bloggers, to everyday fashion lovers, to bargain shoppers, to mall-crawling teenagers. And now, do I still want to wear them? That wedge does add... Read More
