Day to Night

As I was putting together a day into night outfit this week, I wanted a casual look for day that would seamlessly transition into a chic evening look with a nod to the coolness factor. I first thought of the multiple uses of this particular white cut-out eyelet shirt that I recently scored on Net-A-Porter. I have been was furiously searching for white cut-out anything on the internet recently, and when I saw this, I immediately fell in love. White cut-outs pants can be tricky, but an eyelet top is not. When I got around to styling it for NYFH, it became clear we could paint the shirt as the ultimate blank canvas and build around it for two different looks what could be a fun... Read More

Time Out

Life in 2013 is advanced and challenging enough, it doesn’t ease the pain that people worldwide operate on totally different time zones. Unless you are a world traveler, it is not that important to know what time it is in Sydney, or Hong Kong, but how many times a day do you have a conference call with somebody across the globe? Ok what about checking the time? Constantly? Of course. I check my smart phone maniacally for the correct time, but having this time function does deplete those darn batteries. No wonder my battery juice mysteriously disappears by 2pm. In my book, there’s nothing worse than being oblivious to the time and date. I don’t like wearing just one ginormous hunk of metal on my... Gifts for Him

While I am a master of shopping for myself and my clients, buying gifts for the guys is quite the challenge. Men, unlike women, dress very simply. There are dress shirts, suits, and ties for work, and T-shirts, jeans, and sweatshirts for the weekends. I am quite envious of that very quality, the art of simplicity. Leave it to women, myself included, to shop 24/7 on websites, (buying everything hopefully on sale), and ending up completely overwhelmed as to the slew of options at hand. And what about color choices? The list is endless and guys have it so easy. But next week is Father’s Day and it’s that time of year again to master to the art of wondering what to buy Daddy dearest. I... Read More

Chasing The Sun

Knowing what I know now about the sun and just how damaging the sun’s rays are for your skin, I would not have planted myself on a lounge chair, lathered myself with Baby Oil and placed a layer of tin foil under my chin, frying like a piece of bacon. I would have made wiser choices. But that was then and this is now. I have my regrets, but nonetheless, although I cannot reverse the damage, there is nothing in my agenda in the next few months that says “get sun-kissed.” Although, it looks great to have a “healthy glow” studies show that in fact, looks are deceiving, and if we don’t do the right thing, we will all end up with skin cancer. Sunscreen... Read More

The One

For the past month or so, I have been on the hunt, so to speak, for the perfect dress to wear for the many celebratory occasions that are taking place this month. My daughter is turning 13, and is anxiously awaiting the ceremony that will turn her into a woman. Becoming a Bat Mitzvah, is a huge accomplishment, and a milestone. Reading Torah isn’t an easy task–I can distinctly remember mine. But I’ve learned in my life, that it’s not the Bat Mitzvah that allows you growth, oh no. It’s the way in which you teach yourself how to feel comfortable in your own skin, wash your own dirty laundry, and exude an air of self-confident in the way you hold yourself out there in... The Thrill

Oscar de la Renta Gladia cutout leather sandals Photo: Shop.trendland Today in things that make me go hmmm!  — we discuss the virtues of sandals on Net-A-Porter that resemble lace made with intricate cutouts. Do you ever get caught in the black hole of sales and find that you can’t pull yourself out even in spite of your having successfully convinced yourself that you really, really, really don’t need anything? These lacy leather red heels were in my shopping cart yesterday, and then suddenly disappeared, causing lots of anxiety in what was a typical Tuesday morning. Net-a-Porter’s 50% off SALE e-mail dropped around 8AM yesterday, (yes it is still ON) and then paralyzed me for the entire morning. The site crashed numerous times and anything that existed in my cart literally... Read More

Holy Sale!

I found myself endlessly searching the black hole of Nordstrom and ShopBop last night as Memorial Day weekend is the tell-tale sign that spring clothing are on sale and its time to invest in their discounted wares. It was a far less cerebral experience than watching Hangover III, and then the New York Magazine article about heading to outer space, or the book I immersed myself in. Nonetheless, I have parties to attend, and upcoming events that require I show up in more than my typical pyjamas. So I went on my usual hunt, carefully placing items in my cart that will be worn for more than one, two, or three occasions. Yes, my wallet is a little bit lighter today, and my closet is... Summer Lovin

It’s always on Memorial Day weekend that I reflect back on past summers. I wonder if they were everything I had imagined they would be. Did I check off my goals (See: books read, surfing lessons accomplished, drinks inhaled, Panama hats worn, friendships renewed, sunscreen bottles used)? Or, were my summers just a couple of hot steamy months where I feverishly plotting my escapes to the beach for some well-deserved R&R with an excess amount of time spent sitting in traffic on the LIE towards Route 27. Thankfully, they were a healthy combination of both, without looking through rose-colored lenses. I am hoping to make this summer all of the above and pray for no rain in the forecast. Happy Sunday! Stay tuned tomorrow for Memorial... Read More
