Feet Don’t Fail Me Now

It’s no surprise that the creator and star of “Girls”, Lena Dunham, won two awards at the Golden Globes for both TV series and for her acting. Female wunderkinds of every age seemed to dominate the night, go GIRL power, including Jodie Foster and hosts Amy Poehler and Tina Fey. Gracious in victory, Dunham deserved every accolade she received, and then some. Her drop dead Zac Posen gown and Lady Peep Louboutin sandals exuded confidence and beauty that only a red carpet moment could capture. However the combination of nerves, champagne, and the unwieldy skirt combined with those 6-inch Louboutins, she hobbled across the stage looking like she could fall at any moment. Twitter was aflutter with how unstable she was. I feel your pain Lena, as... Read More

On My Face

When attending a dinner party this past Friday, I received a wonderful compliment that threw me off-guard. “Your face looks fantastic! What did you do?” my dear friend asked. I can tell you first-hand that she wasn’t talking anything specific, as she claimed, but rather, my “glowing” skin. “It must be the hat,” I retorted, trying to brush off the compliment. Yup, the large brimmed baby I was wearing, see: Saint Laurent Spring ’13, which framed my face just so. But, then I thought, it had to be the red lipstick, adding the just amount of colorful magic every time. But truth be told, my menstrual cycle stopped in to say hi, just in time to sit down for dinner, which probably enhanced the fake glow... Read More

Hittin’ the Slopes

Deep into the ski season, I received a cry for help from a client heading to Vail with nothing to wear. I gave her a weather update: there is currently no snow out west, but Israel got hit hard so she should adjust her plans accordingly. These weather extremes are so crazy and with all this unpredictability and chaos, extreme has been the new commonplace. With that said, I started to dig deep into my ski trunk for some ideas and wondered from which era my black Patagonia fleece neck gaitor hailed from and where I could be of service. Every year I intend to bequeath this piece to charity, but the fact is, it wards off frostbite and throbs with utility. My ski uniform was... Read More

Call me a grouch, but I’m already over the enthusiastic adoration of winter. Evidently, I’m not the only one. Big sweaters, puffy jackets, chapped lips, scarves, dry skin–I’m quite ready for a breath of fresh air. Hoping that Fall Fashion week showing next month will uplift my spirits and bring some much-needed inspiration from the tents, I am now on the hunt in my closet for the daring, the unusual, and anything but the boring, jumper. The alternative to the mundane is the ‘super sweater’, another thing entirely. Metallic knits, bright colors, and off-kilter shapes are the antithesis of monotony and are just the ticket to combat two more months of winter doldrums. Not comfortable swaddled in padding? Cue the result, a playful knit that is,... Read More

Soul Cycles

Vogue January 2013 What is it about women and shoes? A psychological obsession, women abide by Fashion Rule #1, “You can never have enough shoes.” Carrie Bradshaw would certainly be proud. The minute a shoe becomes “hot,” on websites, on a runway, celebs, and/or on a fashion blog, massive crowds emerge from behind Instagram filters wanting to purchase said shoe. Fashion has become so commonplace and instantaneous nowadays that the editorial spread is no longer ripped out of a magazine and brought to the local store. You convince yourself that you need it now, and with the click of your mouse and immediate fervor, it appears on your doorstep. Therefore, the cyclical nature of fashion has become less pronounced, which leads me to stick to... Read More

Mellow Yellow

January, typically a bleak grey month in the Northeast, is a time to get back to work, hit the gym, eat comforting foods, bundle up, and get much-needed Vitamin D. If I could get my daily dose of sun, I would head to Australia for a month, and drink that sunshine. Or head out west, where it may not be warm, but the sun is always shining, and skiing on fresh snow and the occasional dog pee just might count as a daily dose of D. Just kidding. Not to be confused with neon highlighter yellow, which I am calling over and done, this burst of sunny yellow is meant to soothe and offer a sharp contrast to the grays, whites, and blacks infiltrating your... A Blank Page

On the most auspicious day of the year to take a yoga class, it was the un-asana-filled New Year’s Day experience that was one of the most challenging classes I ever up-dogged through. Physically challenging whilst upside down in a head stand, yes. But it was more than that. It was emotionally draining ie: a meditative class which had me fidgeting while cross-legged, eyes closed on my sticky mat. The teacher was giving us creative visualization cues: Write the book you want to write for 2013. Start a new chapter. Breathe. Be curious like a child. Begin every day with a blank page. Silence. I did my duly 5 minutes worth of exploring my dark fears, and came up with a few attainable resolutions to achieve in... Read More

Happy New Year

As 2012 quickly draws to a close, I find myself less likely to ring in the New Year with a BIG Resolution. Every year when I have made a firm decision to spend less money on shoes, go to the gym more, read a book a week, blog every day, it never fails to lead to major disappointments. This year I resolve to take baby steps and set short-term goals in whatever decisions I intend to make, be it hefty or trivial. My personal resolution for January 2013 is to examine my motives, defeat the constant distractions in life, and attain my goals. And, it’s important to remember the fun when setting goals for the new year. May your 2013 be filled with love, laughter,... Read More
