That’s A Wrap

Gift-giving isn’t easy. There is so much holiday-giving anxiety, that just picking out the just right present can tie you up in knots. Ultimately, my mantra is give what you would like to receive and you will never lose. Think of the dream presents on your wish list and let your imagination fly. If you love it, odds are the gift receiver will too. I started my journey last week at a Juicy Couture press event featuring their new California Dreaming collection, with Mariangela Petrone, a Scotch Brand gift wrapping guru who was demonstrating how to make a bow. There were Juicy tiger sweaters FTW, treats for all, and for me, an idea. A gift is personal – from the salt-water aquarium for your amphibian-lover brother to the... Read More

Keeping Warm

I find all the commotion about what’s hot in-store exhausting. Not to be a Scrooge as end-of-year festivities come rolling around, but all I want to do is get out of my skinny jeans, into my PJ’s and shop online. And that as we all know, is not a possibility. There’s the H&M Neiman Marcus collaboration, shops that lure you in with their gigantic SALES, and the ubiquitous jingle bells.`Tis the season. If this past Thanksgiving weekend taught me anything, besides how to make yummy gingerbread, it’s that staying comfortable and chic at the same time, during the cold and windy days can be challenging. Yesterday I was in Soho, and the wind practically blew my little 5′ frame off the streets. New Yorkers lured... Read More

Generation Who?

Photo: Jak & Jill  Coined Generation X, I am living the “ironic” life of a Generation Y-er, while parenting children that are proud members of Generation Z, the iGeneration, or the Net Generation. I read a very provocative online article in last week’s New York Times Oped Section titled How to Live without Irony, which was essentially a reaction against the “hipster” ethos of today’s technologically savvy Millennial members. Without selling anybody short or poking fun at stereotypes in the fashion world, and without risking living “ironically”, style and street fashion would be D-E-A-D. Although statements of sincerity are nice, to stereotype these young people in such a negative manner because of their outward appearance, adaptive social conventions, or their greater propensity to use technology is... Deals of the Day

Today is the antithesis of Black Friday, there are no banging of doors required, no lines to cut, no 5AM wake-up calls. Just a simple click of your mouse, will take you to the glorious sales that are happening right now on the world-wide web. The greatest thing about Cyber Monday is that you don’t need a plan, the worst thing about today is that the good stuff sells-out quickly and your wallet will feel empty. Did you get anything from my ultra-cool collage on Saturday??? Or did you stay home and shop in your PJ’s? Do share what you scored. But there must be something on your “I must have this or I will die” list but it is still way out of your... Read More

On Sale!

If there is one time of year, you can stay in your PJ’s and be as lazy as sin, it’s today. Perfect to nurse your post-Thanksgiving pumpkin pie hangover, it’s the best way to fight against reality, avoid all human contact, and hunker down. Today, which is also Small Business Saturday, and on some sites through November 28th, is your chance to put your feet up, grab your book and cup of coffee, and never leave your chair. Promote small businesses online. Any fashion blogger will tell you the same. I know that there are several important factors to remember this holiday weekend. On the one hand: the eating portion is over, so why do we continue to raid the kitchen to nibbling on the gingerbread cookies, or even worse eating... Read More

Giving Thanks

The flood of recent emails asking “When is a good time to get together for dinner, a drink, a gingerbread latte?” signifies the end of the year is near. My graceful return to the oven signifies an apple pie is baking, sweet potatoes are roasting, or a big bird is waiting to be scorched. The television ads promoting the heck out of Black Friday to “Come out and shop. We open at 4am!” And finally, the kids are off from school for a 4-day holiday weekend to celebrate sleeping, and their beds. These sure signs can only signify one thing: it must be Thanksgiving. Not one to brave those long lines on Black Friday, I am so much happier surfing the web looking for that... Read More

Boyish Charm

Fashion, a constantly moving target, regularly swings between celebrating sexless and childlike looks vs. voluptuous and womanly curves. Currently, vibing in the tomboy vein, I have been channeling basics in navy, black, and gray in their most simplistic form, pants and shorts in their unisex variety, and pin-straight hair, all working together to form the lithe androgynous look. It all started with the flappers of the 1920’s, continued with the Twiggy silhouette in the 60’s, and worked its way to the 90’s when Kate Moss stepped in and popularized heroin chic. I don’t know who I am more obsessed with Kate Moss or Alexa Chung but its a close tie. I don’t like the term “borrowing from the boys”, it’s so generic. We should scrap... Read More
