If the shoe fits

Jes Wade top, Dannijo necklace, William Rast jeans, Christian Louboutin shoes, Parker leather jacket, Devi Kroll clutch Last night I co-hosted a fabulous “Meet the Bloggers” event at Ruia, a quaint shoe boutique in Soho with two other bloggers, Lera of FashionAddictDiary.com, and Mariana of MSFabulous.com. In case you missed it, (I did Tweet you an invite) there were plenty libations, lively conversation abound, and the rooms were buzzing. Questions were raised about who bloggers are and what we do. The long and the short of it is how we are monopolizing social media, (i.e.: Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, et al.) captivating the attentions of brands, and how the countless hours spent in front of a computer screen do pay off. Truth be told, writing can at times be a lonely gig,... Read More

From the vault

My own version of March madness usually has me spring cleaning and organizing my entire closet as I am supremely sick at the thought of looking at all of my winter sweaters. After today’s high of 70 degrees, it is obvious that mother nature is fickle but I hope spring will continue to throw us a bone. The weekend is supposed to barely hit 50 degrees so I am not packing those wooly threads away quite yet. Feeling creatively uninspired, not quite ready to dip into those summer sheers, I tend to lean on the good old standbys like denim, utility jackets, tons of accessories, and leather. It’s a great option when you don’t have time to think of what to wear, or even check... Read More

Groovy Freaks

Skulls left to right: Blue Sky, Mono and Me, Year of the Boar, Isabel Marant, Net-A-Porter, Converse, ASOS Ah, I bet you are thinking that’s me: a groovy freakkkk. My brain, crammed with too many thoughts causes my skull to freak out. So killer. So where am I going with this? We all know by now that the right accessories can make or break an outfit. The sartorial trimmings that have been catching my eye of late, are these little howlite skulls– the groovy freaks. The symbolic skull first appeared in the Grateful Dead logo. It then became hardcore punk. Remember the ubiquitous skull and crossbones that adorned belts, sneakers, and keyfobs? I do. Then the fad turned teenage emo. And now that gothic symbol of yore has... Ruia and NY Fashion Hunter invite you…

Thursday evening of this week I will be dancing to the tunes of getting to know the bloggers (me included), shoe shopping, major discounts, having delicious libations, and nibbling on chocolate. The fashion forward boutique, Ruia, has requested my presence (lucky me) for a fun-filled night of playing dress-up–a girl’s dream come true. Ruia, at just over a year old, carries an exclusive line of European shoes not to be found anywhere else — a rare commodity these days. I had the pleasure of stopping by last week and the shop really reminds me of a small exclusive Parisian boutique in the heart of Soho. So come say “hi” now that we are really getting to know each other. Figure its an evening... Read More

Foot Stompin’

Among the many manifestos that I have made this past season; most notably wide-leg pants, mixing prints, oversized coats, and over-the-top fur, I have not forgotten about what has been occurring below ankle level. Knee-high boots are more prevalent than booties, the platform shoe is not dead, and we see the return of the pump.  It’s fine by me, time to move on. New York saw the return of this lady-like pointy accessory at Thakoon, Peter Som, Derek Lam, and others. And with that single sole and pointed-toe comes the repair bills and cramped toes.  Thakoon Peter Som Alexander Wang In other shoe news, after seeing the shoes in Paris, I would declare wearability is, without a doubt, one of the biggest shoe trend of... Playing Dress-Up with Pastels

Pastels have resurged back into fashion and designers like Peter Som, Jason Wu, Philip Lim and others flirted with them this Spring. For me, maybe it is the over saturation of blinding neon in the stores, but the refreshing soft blues, pinks, and mint greens – a Ladurée macaron palette if you will, has made an appearance in my wardrobe. Especially my current craving for baby blue ripped denim. I can’t remember the last time I played dress-up with lots of fun pastely-looking things. It was probably whilst dressing up multiple Barbie dolls with my girls and putting them in light pink convertibles. They drove around topless in LA, jk, they had bikinis on. Ok, let’s cut to the story. J.Crew denim shirt, Rag and... Read More

Paris fashion week

The designers, the models, the press, the photographers, and the fabulosity that is Paris Fashion Week has finally calmed down and gone to sleep for a few minutes. I think it was that Kanye party that signified the pièce de résistance or maybe it was Marc Jacobs’ surreal train ride  for Louis Vuitton. If you didn’t watch the Vuitton video you really should. Either way, the last runway show of the FW 2012 season has finally ended. The best part is yet to come, when I get to hash out and dissect some of the trends. Some that caught my eye?  Oversized coats, funky furs, Baroque prints, slits everywhere possible, and apparently unlimited black leather. (See below pics.) Spring renewal

The promise of warmer weather and longer days has put some spring in my step. With daylight savings comes the extra hour of sun, a chance to renew, regroup, and refresh our wardrobes. It is still only Mid-March on the calendar, so the weather can be fickle like it was this week–with degrees way into the 60’s and back down to the low 40’s. I find that choosing pops of color, and prints like florals, will always brighten my day. Like I’ve said before it is always smart to layer and work your winter pieces with the new spring garb for those awkward days when you are not sure what to wear. Everybody faces that challenge in the mornings. Here I have paired a crisp... Read More
