McQ Fall/Winter 2012 show London

McQ, the late Alexander McQueen’s lower priced line, showed its first runway show ever this season. Sarah Burton, McQ’s Creative Director, presented a beautiful collection– an homage to the late McQueen. The show is likely to drum up buzz — the McQ’s first flagship shop in London is opening in a few weeks. After watching the show, it was hard to imagine that this was a lower priced line given the fine fabrications and impeccable tailoring. The themes of the show were romance, dark glamour, and autumn, and the runway was a carpet of dead leaves. The show started with military coats in olive green and khaki, followed by wine and black colored dramatic dresses embellished with leafy embroidery. The looks captured the shack in... Read More

On the streets of Milan

Shoes Prada , photo Grazia. It  Here is how fashion lives on the streets. The shows moved to Milan quicker than you can check the internet sites, and although the crazy creativeness appears right now on the runways, here is how you wear lust-worthy objects such as these shoes outside of the tents. This pictures was shot yesterday by Nam and I found it in Grazia–an Italian magazine from day two of a Milan style blog. The title  just said “Scarpe con Tacco Alto”, translated into “Shoes with High Heels”. I love the Italians. It was only six months ago that these Prada Tailfin shoes came soaring down the runway and voila! Here they are, appearing on the  street of Milan, flames and all. These shoes were made,... A teenage dream cheat sheet

When asked to do a style spread for teens on the upcoming spring months, I thought how great it would be to borrow from the cool it girl’s closet.  Teenagers have the advantage of borrowing from the boys, from the runways, from super high-end designs and mixing it up to make it all their own. The day I realized I could no longer shop at teen stores was a sad, scary day. Youth is fashion’s muse. Fearful of nothing but their own self-doubts, teenagers can experiment with cool new trends. Lucky for me, I have a teenage daughter that was ready for her closeup. Say hello to Alex, my muse for the day. She’s been watching my blog grow and as a collaboration, we thought... Read More

The styles on the street

Has Fashion Week become one big beauty pageant? The runway shows are one part, the celebs in the front row another, but the poser begging to be photographed is the true unspoken battle on the streets outside of Lincoln Center, Milk Studios, and the Piers. What are the rules? Getting dressed and looking good is Rule 1. For the Carine Roitfields and the Olsen twins of the world, getting photographed for The Cut or The Sartorialist is a given. But if you are a FW plebleian like me, you can capture the attention of the camera. I definitely don’t have all the answers. It is an attainable art to dress like a rockstar. This season, it seemed like everyone managed to rummage through a man’s closet... Read More

My booty from the Barneys Warehouse sale

Yesterday I hauled it over to 17th between 7th and 8th Avenues for the bi-annual Barneys Warehouse sale. Lucky for me there were no lines and incredible bargains to be had. It was more civilized than in year’s past and there was no grabbing, pushing and fighting for that Alåia shoe or that Celine jacket. I was eyeing a pair of Alexander Wang mid-calf white fur boots which I might have to go back for. They were awesome white and furry things, but I decided to hold back. Maybe its this almost Spring-like weather we are experiencing. So, take a look at my booty and tell me what you think.

What I wore day 8 NYFW

Jes Wade top, Adam by Adam Lippes jacket, J.Brand waxed jeans, Poleci fur wrap, Pierre Hardy  leopard platforms, Devi Kroll eel skin clutch, Tom Ford sunglasses, Dannijo ring. And…. it’s a wrap. In what seems to have been day number 750, here is what I wore on day 8 of fashion week. Check out all the many textures I am sporting: a patent leather jacket mixed with wool, a silk top mixed with leather details, and glitter-threaded socks. BIG theme during the fall shows. In what is going out as what I call a wimpy winter, fashion week was great this time around as I did not have to lug a heavy coat around the city. A true believer victim, I would have worn open toe shoes... Read More

Sachin and Babi

Sachin and Babi Ahluwalia, the couple behind their little over two year old contemporary brand,  Sachin and Babi, made a splash this season by showing a runway presentation at Cedar Lake Dance Studio on 26th Street. I had first seen the collection at the Coterie a month ago, but I was so happy to have been invited to their first show ever. I also got a chance to go backstage and photograph the hair and makeup looks pre-show and see what the models do backstage. As you can see, they are on their phones like the rest of us, probably tweeting away. The collection rendered a sexy beat with slits up the thigh, flirty flared leather skirts, and plenty of sheer. The color palette consisted... Read More

Monday’s Shows NYFW

I know it is Thursday, but after a whirlwind of fashion week activities and finally getting theses photos in my dropbox, I am able to play a little catch up now on my reviews from the week. I was told last night by a friend that the posts are only relevant if they go up the week the show happens, if not the day after. That is all well and good if you have a dream team of editors and photographers to back you up. One day, for sure. First up on my agenda was the Jenny Packham show at 9am on Monday morning. Taking us back to the 1940’s, a destitute time in American History, Packham’s collection remembers that era as the heyday of... Read More
