Flipping Out
October is one of my all-time favorite months. The weather has been so delightful, sunny and in the high 60’s during the day, and crisp and cool and night, the perfect layering weather. I love watching the leaves change, picking ripe apples, and an early sunset. Just kidding about the early sunset, but when my wardrobe shifts to comfy sweaters, skirts, and boots, my mind and body is ready to take on the fall months. This month will also bring us Halloween, pumpkins, creepy crawly things, and all things built around the consumption of candy. Candy equals rotting our collective teeth and gums, and for me, an additional layer of skin that doesn’t belong there. There’s no give for my longing to wear the crop top.
In the all-encompassing case of getting dressed: if jeans won’t cut it and a blazer can only play supporting role in your outfit’s film, look into your closet and cue into the forgiving skirt. Go for the poof, the color, the evocative flip. While the flippy skirt isn’t a new trend so much as a style that’s becoming increasingly more popular, I took another one for a test drive last week. The findings? When these photos were snapped, I was just meandering through the West Village, tricking humanity into thinking I’m heading to a corporate job on my green bike.
What?
I have been very into skirts of all colors, textures, and lengths with chunky, cozy sweaters. It’s a look that creates interest through contrast. After all, wearing a girlish skirt with a lacy top topping it with a flannel shirt or a heavy, loose knit is the best of both worlds — sexy and alluringly masculine all at once. Whether you prefer a mini or longer length, this combo will become your new go-to fall outfit.
Here is the same look after adding the ubiquitous flannel shirt.
And I’m wearing a sea ny lace sleeveless top // 3.1 phillip lim green wool flare skirt // paige flannel shirt, get a similar one from elizabeth and james // manolo blahnik pumps // ps 11 wallet clutch
I especially love the idea of keeping things fresh by mixing it up with a pair of white shoes. Happy Monday!
