Runway to Reality
I call this the score of the century, my red and blue playful plaid jacket from Thakoon. The big hair? I tried new curling tools, but the jury is out on that one. Don’t want to be channeling the Farrah thing. Was going more for the groovy chick look. The jacket is from the current Fall 2011 season resurrected from the the lonely racks of hanging threads looking for a home. These are pieces that may or may not land on somebody’s body. Of course, one person’s trash is another person’s treasure – a.k.a. – I’m a very lucky girl with a very good eye to snag this stunner. There’s a reason I’m known as The Fashion Hunter.
As you may or may not know, designers send their full collection down the runways. Then, select pieces are cut, manufactured, and produced so you and I can get the goods hot off the press at our favorite boutiques.
The pieces that are not made, are called samples that often make their way onto fashion blogs, editorials, and photo shoots as one-of-a-kind, highly desirable coveted pieces. Thakoon, a celebrated talent well-known for his innovative designs, is followed by influencers, like bloggers, editors, etc, because he imparts a feminine spirit, elegance, and wit in his collections. After receiving an award for Best Emerging Womenswear Designer Award in 2006, its no wonder he has established a cult-like following, and I am part of this cult. So as an avid follower of his collections, naturally I follow what he deems on-trend and take note. I had my eye on the prize- this asymmetrical dress shown here. As soon as it was announced that he was having a sample sale, I ran looking for this dress. I mean RAN.
You see sometimes you have go with your gut. I knew right off the bat that this skin-tight asymmetrical dress was not going to look good on me. For one, I am vertically challenged (a fashion girl problem), and I tend not to wear head-to-toe patterns. Sample sales are not for the faint of heart. there’s pushing and shoving but thankfully, I have yet to be maced with pepper spray. Back to the dress. It did look funny on me. And as I was scouring through the racks, the Hunter in me found a jacket that called my name. It fit perfectly, no hemming needed and I looked like a million bucks. Don’t be jealous girls. The reality? I am happy to report that the jacket cost me less than you would believe. If you do love his designs like I do and find them irresistable –find them and the dress right here.
Take a look below at Thakoon’s love of bermuda shorts, the amazing color blue, the peplum on this top, and these crazily awesome prints. We have a lot to look forward to come Spring.
There is a wide selection of Thakoon on Shopbop. http://www.shopbop.com/thakoon/br/v=1/2534374302123351.htm
Happy Thakooning.
