There are so many fashion rules out there, too many to list, and so many to break. Wearing white after Labor Day. Who abides by that anymore? Another fashion rule, don’t wear socks with sandals. I am all for keeping warm in the winter. Don’t wear miniskirts after age 40. Have you seen Sofia Coppola lately? Match your shoes to your bag and belt. While it’s good to have a uniform, I can’t imagine something more unappealing. In addition, I am big believer in wearing what looks good on you. And only you. Because I am told something, doesn’t mean it’s right. Just recently, I have been updating my holiday looks to the new trends of the season, and have a newfound love for black and brown. As a combination. While it doesn’t seem likely, the combo works. It’s the savvy edition black and brown styled together.
Savvy edition, black and brown styled together
This has long been a fashion rule that’s made to be broken, as black and brown actually go together quite well. For example, how chic does it look when you wear black jeans, a black overcoat, and your trusty brown Chelsea boots? Or a brown leather skirt with a black turtleneck and black tights? So chic. One of the most commonly asked fashion questions out there, can you wear black and brown together? Can you break the non-existent rule? The answer is a simple — heck yea, you can! I am literally wearing the two colors together right now. First of all, take a few select pieces in your closet and try them on together. See, you look fantastic. Scroll below for details on how I styled my look. It seems like the perfect time to throw on a pair of velvet joggers!
Occasion: How to wear black and brown to work
So, you’re going to the office? Grab an all-black look, pants or a skirt, and throw a brown jacket and a chic bag to pull the look together. The best way to add a touch of brown into your look is through the accessories. This includes shoes, bags, jackets, belts, hats and gloves. It is one thing that throws off your look just enough that people become impressed with your fashion sense. As a result, it lets people know that you are “in the know”. Probably the only time it starts getting difficult, is when you add too many other colors to the outfit. As a result, stick to black and brown. Keep it simple. Hence, you will be pull it off every time. Here are some of my favorite brown pieces for Fall/ Winter.
Occassion: On a date
One of my favorite things to wear this time of year is a sweater dress. You an easily throw a dress on and pair it with a pair of thigh high boots. And, it is a sexy look, without being a pair of jeans and a sweater. Maybe the most comfortable things I have in my closet are my knit dresses.
Most of all, it’s your style, our wardrobe, your life. But it doesn’t hurt to get some advice from a stylist. How would you style black and brown together?
