The retro item has successfully come full circle, going from its ’70s disco days to iconic Top Gun and Ghostbuster appearances, to now becoming a modern sartorial staple. Now that the boiler suit has taken over our instagram feeds, I don’t resent the hype. It’s all about the way they hang, shoulder-to-ankle, at once all-consuming and humble. I wonder if anything else that’s so easy could look so cool, so comfy, so forgiving. And so utilitarian! The good ones are essentially storage lockers and I feel so productive when I am wearing one. Like dresses, they give you a whole look in one shot, but unlike dresses, they’re utterly unisex. A more perfect garment possibly doesn’t exist.
